Ten years of Box with a Heart and Rock Steady Boxing
Ten years of Box with a Heart and Rock Steady Boxing reached a milestone last week. Roughly 200 people attended the 10th annual fundraiser. The event supports the Rock Steady Boxing program at the MARJCC, which serves people living with Parkinson’s. In addition, organizers provided that attendance estimate.
Activest Wealth Management sponsored the event. Our Managing Partner, Jacob Taurel, CFP®, attended with his kids. Meanwhile, boxers, their families, elected officials, and the coaches who show up week after week filled the room.
A county proclamation for the program
Above all, the day belonged to the program itself. Miami-Dade County’s Mayor and Commissioners issued a proclamation designating August 30, 2026 as Rock Steady Boxing Day. Next, Commissioner Micky Steinberg presented that proclamation to Head Coach Dany Weil. Recognition of that kind rarely arrives early. Instead, it tends to follow years of quiet, repeated work. Therefore, the applause in the room carried a decade behind it.
Ten years of Box with a Heart and Rock Steady Boxing began with one idea
Jenny, our good friend, started it all. She asked what boxing might offer people facing Parkinson’s. Today, however, the program holds county-wide recognition and fills a room with participants who train together. Coaches and organizers describe benefits such as steadier movement and sharper focus. However, an exercise class is not medical treatment, and individual results vary. For example, anyone considering the program should talk with a physician first.
How a small idea turns into a decade
First, one person asks a question that nobody else has asked out loud. Next, a handful of people show up to try the answer. In addition, a coach keeps the door open on the mornings when only two boxers arrive. Finally, the years add up, and the room fills. In practice, that sequence looks unremarkable from the inside. For instance, no single training session announces itself as a milestone. Most importantly, the people involved keep returning.
Where this milestone fits for us
We build our work on decisions measured in decades. This program grew the same way, one training session at a time. In other words, patience can compound in more places than portfolios. That view is our opinion, not a forecast. Finally, congratulations to Jenny Enslein, Dany Weil, and everyone at the MARJCC on ten years. Thank you for letting us stand with you.
Why our firm shows up locally
Our team lives and works in this community. Therefore, we sponsor events that our neighbors organize and attend. For example, this fundraiser brought together families who already know one another from the gym floor. In contrast, a check sent from a distance builds nothing. Of course, a sponsorship also carries limits, and we describe those limits below. In practice, showing up in person matters more than a logo on a banner. Meanwhile, the coaches do the work that actually helps people.
What ten years of Box with a Heart and Rock Steady Boxing suggests about time
Ten years is long enough to change what a community expects. Households planning for retirement face a similar horizon. However, the comparison stops there, because a portfolio and an exercise class answer very different questions. For instance, markets move in ways no coach controls. Therefore, families should weigh each plan on its own terms. Above all, consistency over long periods tends to matter more than any single dramatic effort. In other words, the years reward whoever kept showing up.
In addition, CBS Miami covered the event. You can watch the segment here.
