This year’s theme, “Beyond Boundaries”, brings together leaders, visionaries and changemakers who challenge conventional thinking. For example, talks span innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, health, science and creative expression. In addition, TEDxMiami is part of the global TED movement, which promotes “ideas worth spreading.”
What the Beyond Boundaries theme means to us
A boundary can be a habit, an assumption or simply the way a field has always worked. The speakers this year come from very different backgrounds. However, each of them questions an accepted limit in their own area. As a result, the program feels less like a set of separate lectures and more like a single conversation about progress.
We find that framing useful. It also gives the audience a practical lens. Instead of asking whether an idea fits a familiar category, listeners can ask what would change if the idea worked. In other words, the theme invites curiosity before judgment.

How the lineup fits together
At first glance, a hostage negotiator and a cancer researcher may seem to have little in common. Several threads run through the program, though. First, technology appears in many talks, from AI ethics in women’s health to machine learning and precision medicine. Next, human behavior is a recurring subject, with talks on influence, compliance, defiance and communication under pressure. In addition, the program looks at the youngest members of our communities through research on ADHD and school readiness. Finally, music brings the day together with a message of unity.
